As it says!

When parking or attempting to reverse with a trailer on (empty or full and heavy), the power steering becomes very heavy, almost immovable, like an extreme form of manual.
Their is no problem at all when driving, and even at slow speed.

I have tried the steering with the engine revving and their doesnt seem to be much change.

The problem is most pronounced when facing downhill, or reversing back up hill.

Their is vertical play in the drop arm ball joint and I have a part ordered to sort that, could that be the issue, or could it be something more anoying to fix?

The 200 pumps can shear the drive shaft just behind the pulley, I have had two fail, the def 200 pas pumps are not cheap!
They have an extra bearing in the nose of the pump, this is not lubricated by oil, and relies on the grease used during manufacture, this dries out over time.

Just had similar problem , steering was ok when moving but parking was a real work out , After doing the basic checks ,belt ,oil level , uj s , etc bit the bullit and replaced the steering box , made a world of difference now can park with one hand easily .
