hiya you lucky bunch, was wondering if any one could help me with a little problem. I am getting power loss on my xedi.

symptoms are:

engine management light comes intermitantly

appears to be no turbo power when emu light is on.

small oil leak from turbo.

when the engine management light goes off turbo appears to come back on and work as normal, but emu light comes back on and problem returns, car is still under warranty and is going back in tommorow to dealers mechanic but any suggestions would be appreciated.
car is fine to drive but very underpowered without turbo.

hay thanks for that, since had it into garage, cleaned up maf but stated thats not the problem, said it was the map and would cost £91 to fix and not covered by my warranty!!!!! tried maf solution seemed to work then problem returned so think it could be map.

Check for splits in the intercooler hoses. These are common on older L series engines and boost pressure escapes. This could be seen as a faulty map sensor since it will read the lower pressure which is not what the ecu is expecting.

Also check for chafing of the wire from no1 injector, and check the brake lights for correct operation (not sticking on or bulbs blown) as this will cause power loss. (ecu cuts fuel if the brake pedal is pressed, bulbs are blown or brake lights are stuck on or there's an intermittent contact on the pedal switch)

Hang on a minute! I've just discovered that my main brake lights do not work and perhaps have not done for a while. A little while ago my engine began to cut out at 3200 revs (which is at around 75-80pmh in fifth gear) and kick in again as soon as the revs dropped. Are you saying that these two things could be related? It'll be great if it is coz I have been sweating about how mch it might cost me to get the engine managment sorted out.

:D

well guys guess wot, it was the map unit, ordered a new one from an ignition parts company from the internet and turned up within a few days. But still checked everything else and sorted out the srs light as well that they wanted to charge me for.
By the way does anyone know if a slight weepage of oil from your turbo is right or does it mean one of the seals has gone (as they are wont to do coz they just love that fresh fish) by the way what happened to emu after rod jumped? I saw some lovely looking emu burgers at a show recently so ............i wonder
