hi everyone,
since yesterday afternoon my 300tdi defender has been losing power. it barely moves going up hills but will go down them fine and isn't too bad on straights, but is lumpy, feels like there are air bubbles or something in the fuel supply. I had the timing belt changed about 350 miles ago, don't know if this could be why.
The only reason i could think of is this; yesterday i washed my grandad's car and he paid me in diesel. (he has a big tank of it) he gave my a six litre can, marked DIESEL, and i poured it in. when i opened the can the sun was on it and i observed that the contents were blue, but thought nothing of it. i can't really differentiate between the smells of petrol and diesel, unless i have both to smell at, so my grandad may have made a mistake and given me petrol for some reason and i didnt notice. the other thing which suggests this is that i opened the fuel cap today and it hissed like a lemonade bottle being opened. the daihatsu terios petrol made the exact same noise when i opened its filling cap and my honda cub always did that when it had been sunny. both cars had been sitting in the quite warm sun since this morning...
does anyone have any ideas?? any help would be much appreciated

i'll ask him if it'd been sitting around long but he gets his tank topped up every few months i think. i'm gonna get a new fuel filter as it's due for a change so i'll check that when it comes. is the best course of action to brim it with some of BP's finest wallet-cleaner?
