just lookin into the idea of fittin unimog or volvo portal axles to my 200tdi 90, and just wonder if any of u guys knew witch axles are best work involved and rough sort of cost, my dads best mate is a metal fabrictor so makin brackets is not really a problem, any help would be greatfull thank you casper

most people use volvo portals but as wiltslandy has said, they aint cheap.

i know there not cheap i was thinkin about 1.5k each but it aint bad if u think that a recon 90 axle is 600-800 for hole thing, and they are ment to be bulletproof both mog and volvo axles. i just wondered if anyone had fitted them and work involed!

fook that my local landy guy does a complete disco/rangy/defender axle with diffs/halfshafts etc £150

To get an equally strong or as near as possible to a volvo portal axle with difflocks its going to be realistically £1250 for a front axle parts plus overhaul/fitting and about £1000 for the rear plus overhaul/fitting. Thats with the best Parts Ashcroft can supply with stronger CV's, shafts, drive members and 4 pin diffs with difflock on each axle. Portals suddenly isn't all that expensive.
