My W reg D2 td5 has very recently decided to discharge the battery leaving me unable to start it. A 20 min charge of the battery was all it needed in order to start the vehicle. I have had everything checked and all appear to be working well with no discharges evident. The battery is only 1 year old and reads as in perfect condition, and the car is always very well maintained. I have done a full check and nothing has been left 'on' that uses power.
The discharge goes from fully charged to 'flat' in 2 days! My mechanic kept it over the weekend ( Fri to Tues) and, guess what ..... it didn't go flat!! Sods law. The only difference in its 'stabling' is that he kept it in the shade and with me it was in full sun - do you think this could cause the discharge??
My difficulty is that I am on holiday in France for 3 weeks from the beginning of next month and I do not want to find myself stuck, Hence I am looking to invest in a portable Power Pack with enough 'grunt' to start my car if it becomes necessary. I know nothing about these ( or anything else mechanical if it comes to that) but have been trying to research the facts. The Clarke 4000 seems to be powerful enough but it is 17 krm in weight!! Hardly what I would call portable with my holiday luggage.
Has anyone got any recommendations, please?????? At this moment, cost is not the priority but function is! I do have European breakdown cover but just cannot face the thought of having to use it time after time for such a thing as a flat battery whilst on a holiday, if I can avoid it.
