Hi
Since weather has gotten colder my P38 has trouble starting in the mornings.

Though it was batteryt related - had a new one put on sunday and this morning the same thing...takes several attempts (and prayers to fire her up)...once its warm there is no problem....

I never had this problem last year.....

Any suggestions ??

Cheers

Yep, if it's diesel it will be glowplugs or low cranking speed. cos the battery is too small.

Apolgies...

Its a 2001 4.6 vogue....petrol...

I ahd wondered if a sensor has become faulty...

In that case, dampness ,HT leads,Sparkplugs ,moisture at coil packs
If you can,get it on diagnostics and it might show up

fit a diesel battery to it - 1000CCA. If its a halfords special they probably gave you the correct petrol one, which in most opinions is not enough anyway. Lots of petrol heads fitted the diesel (644 type from memory) to the petrol to improve cranking performance.

Take it you've serviced regularly with spark plugs being checked/fuel filters etc? Check the HT leads for signs of condensation or damp to.

Well with a trade card and nearly 50% off and a three year warranty that you can quickly change anywhere ie shop.

I'd say that's better than waiting for an online shop to check out your problem an estimate of two weeks so what's better wammers !!

Ok, put new set of champion plugs on....it developed a misfire especially over mid range. Thought is leads, put magnecir on....(hands are still regaining feeling !) still misfiring.

Changed plugs back to new ngk...now running smooth again....so ? Faulty champion plug(s).

This mornin...nice n chilly outside....started her up ...and took five attempts...

Any suggestions next, had red about dielectric grease to insulate ht leads....but could only see it in America.....

I need to rely upon it for work......

Cheers

As quoted above replies - whats the cranking speed? could be a weak battery, the P38's hate weak/tired batteries.

Ok, today put on a diesel battery......

If its difficult to start tommorrow what's the next thing to check ?

Wait till it's dark tonight then get somebody else to crank it up whilst you have a nose under the bonnet. If you've got an HT problem you might see it.
