Hi there-

I'm the proud new owner of a 1985 Defender 90 3.5 lts V8. It's been the subject of a recent chassis-up restoration and is in A1 condition- very clean.

At present it has a pair of Stromberg carbs, but after a bit of digging around it seems like a 4-pot downdraught Weber carb will make a big difference in terms of immediately available power. There's a virtually new one on ebay for £250 ish, but then you need an Edelbrock manifold for another £200ish, plus a fitting kit for £175, plus the actual fitting and tuning etc. So suddenly its big bucks. (Although RPI do the whole package for £550ish)

And then there's the electronic ignition upgrade that (apparantly) would make the whole thing sing.

Any thoughts? Is it possible (or desirable) to buy a reconditioned unit? Where might you find one - I've been looking without success.

Anyway, this is my first Landy and it has opened a whole new world of motoring - I love the whole mechanical feel to it, and of course the noise. It's gorgeous.

I can see I'm going to have a whole load of fun.

Sounds like you've got the twin of mine!

My engine is out of a Classic Rangie 3.5EFi unit. Mods to that have been limited to a pair of new heads and 3.9 EFi induction system and ECU with tubular manifold mated to a TD5 system. Sounds very nice, goes very quick and will do about 25-26 on a long run.
