Hi all,

I have a series 2a 2.25 petrol, originally had a webber 34 carb on it but I couldn't ever get it running well (potentially an internal blockage that is apparently common with these). So I ordered a cheap Zenith replica from ebay to test. And it made a huge improvement. However, as suspected a cheapy only lasts as many days as the pounds it cost, so it is now running unbelievably rich and regardless of the adjustments, it is not playing fair game. So what I would like to do it borrow someones spare carb that they know is working well, test it out on mine and if that solves the problem, I will then fork out for a reconditioned Zenith.

I live in Bridport Dorset so if there is a member on here that lives fairly close, I'd be grateful if you can help me out.

Give M Bartlett and Sons a call, they aren't too far from you and might have one in the workshop.
 
I had a running problem with my repro cheep zenith knock off ..After getting it to idle well I took it out and it would backfire on the overrun and choke up on idle .

I disconnected the choke circuit fast idle rod and it seems to have cured both problems and the Landy drives well and doesn't choke up on idle and idles at a steady whisper .

The choke circuit still works in so much as the air flow is restricted but the idle doesn't increase , and the Landy drives nice on choke until the temp is up and choke is released it pulls hard doesn't play up and idles just so the charging light flickers .. It doesn't appear to be overly rich, no stinking exhaust or black smoke , usual light smoke on start and if allowed to sit idling for to long, Hard to tell what the mileage is as Landy are kind of heavy on the go go juice .. I think im getting around 18 to 20 mpg which by all accounts is pretty good for a petrol 109

I run webber 34s on my VW van ( in pairs) transformed the VW and increased the mileage to a decent 30mpg ..
The Webbers seem to all be supplied with incorrect jets and emulsion tubes given that they were the carb of choice for Bedford vans, and pretty much all the replacements are jetted for that application. Euro carb sell the carbs and all the jets to get these running pretty good .. worth persevering with either and seeing if it makes a difference ..
 
I had an engine meltdown on the road to Abbotsbury about five years ago and the recovery vehicle dropped ‘us’ off at a workshop very close to Axminster station. It was a landie graveyard so, if it’s still open, it might be worth a look.
There was another landie graveyard at The Shrubbery garage on the back road to Lyme Regis from Seaton. A shocking waste really.
