Hi we have a Land Rover discovery 4, the previous owner has fitted facelift headlights onto the vehicle and they need to be enabled by the cars BCM - can anybody tell me who can do this or how to do it / it’s due it’s MOT on the 24th Jan and currently has no headlights and I can’t find anybody anywhere able to help

Hi

always best to pop over to the introduce section , alas if u can’t find any local company ur more than likely need to buy ur own diagnostics, many of us with D3 and D4 use one called gap iid , there around £420 and is advantageous to have one due to the complexity of these vehicles

im afraid as you’ve mentioned it the only way is to use diagnostics, maybe some here might be able to help u if they live local

Hope that helps a little

Thank you so much for the info Stuart - my partner bought the car and I’m getting real close to sending him to live in it out of my sight

I’ve put a post on hopefully I can find someone close to me but at least I kind of know what I need - I’ve phoned so many garages and they don’t have a clue what I’m talking about

xx

ur so welcome :)

poor hubby , lmao , am just trying to find out for u if a cheaper scanner will do the same for u

I’m wondering if the older headlights were halogen and the new ones are xenon, do the lights flicker when u first turn them on plse

there should be a label on the top of the lights , have heard of some issues with the facelift lights , called the 4.5 range , if u can take a pic of the front of the lights and label I’ll see if I can do some digging for u

These is all I can find on the light?
Thank you again x

This is lights powered on - the full things flash as you turn the car on then go back off and only the running lights and fog lights work x

Many thks for the pics, so there called 4.5 facelift and I think some wiring and a relay needs adding, am just looking through some links for u

would u be able to take a picture of the label please , will be on top of the light , might have to quickly remove them if it’s hidden , need to ensure if you’ve bought AFS lights or not which are cornering lights which need more work to get them to work

more than happy to help and still looking to see if the cheaper scanner will work

This is the cheaper scanner , alas though I can’t find out if it will do the headlight alteration in the CCF

https://www.auteldiag.co.uk/products/autel-maxiap-ap200

however it is always a good idea to have some form of scanner , as these motors are very complicated , I have a D3 but the D4 are even more complicated

these scanners are ideal to keep in ur glovebox and are Bluetooth via ur iPad or iPhone , sorry can’t find the answer if they will do the headlight ccf alteration but are very cheap to buy

Basically if u speak to a garage u want the headlight CCF files updated for the face lift 4,5 headlights ,

still searching for u

I can’t find any stickers on the lights but it does look like somebody has added lots of new wiring these look like they lead to both lights? X

hi, many thks , indeed does look someone has done the wiring alteration already , fingers crossed simply getting the CCF changed will resolve the issues

think the quickest way is giving those garages a call , just ask them you’ve fitted new headlights and need the CCF files updated

if u get no joy please let us know , plus ref the labels I think u need to remove the headlights to see the label, have put a picture here of the type of thing ur looking for , at least then we know for sure which ones u have, hope there not the AFS , known as cornering lights

sorry I’m waffling lol, give the garages a call and plse let us know how u get on

hope that helps

So I’ve found someone who can do it in Kent for £100

but as far as in my area - I may as well be speaking a different language ‍♀️ The only garage that would even give me the time of day said only landrover direct can do the facelift lights as it’s a £10000 program so only Land Rover direct have it - Just called them and they said £180 to even look at it and go from there and it’s 8 weeks until I can get it in to them.

I mean who buys a car, hands over £10 000 and hasn’t even checked the headlights work I could string him up

alas I never go near a JLR dealer , there rates are eye watering , good to hear u found someone who can do it for u , indeed there talking rubbish , £10k , never heard such a thing

wow that’s some distance as I also live in Kent , assume the disco is there unless it’s another kent near u, lol

plse let us know how u get on and be gentle with ur other half , hopefully he doesn’t have to sleep in the shed for a few weeks , lol

there lovely motors , but so worth getting a full warranty that also covers the crankshaft , think some of them are around £1.5k per year but best to shop around , gives u peace of mind and look forward to see how u get on plse, thks

I’m
Wondering if I could buy the diagnostic thing you had said how do I then update the ccf files where would I get the right information to put in? Thinking this may be a easier way than getting the car 6 hours to kent! I’m in Middlesbrough x

hiya

yikes 6 x hours and indeed a lot of fuel , the only diagnostics I know that works is the gap iid , basically with that ur be able to do anything on the discovery , including changing settings in the ccf , check and clear faults, live data, the list goes on and will pay for itself very quickly , your be able to virtually do the same that garages can do if not more , also customer service from gap iid is second to none , there based in Canada

https://www.gap-diagnostic.com/products/iidtool/

they’re normally around £500 but can get them from here for around £440

https://www.island-4x4.co.uk/tfiidb...agnostics-tool-bluetooth-tfiidbt-p-27303.html

know it sounds a lot but with the discovery being very complicated u won’t have the hassle of relying on garages , or waiting time , works via Bluetooth on ur iPad or iPhone , will also work on a Mac laptop

the cheaper one is indeed very basic , if u do get the gap iid there’s plenty of us here that can help u , with that on the headlights it’s a simple menu , select the relevant menu and it’s done, of course fingers crossed all the wiring is correct etc

personally can’t recommend it enough as I do all my own work and it’s paid for itself 10 x times over

hope that helps

It works on Android too Gary, actually the interface is better, as Droid isn't so restricted to 3rd party developers as Crapple is. ;)

Hugeeee thank you gstuart!! With your explanation of what I needed and recommendation of a garage I finally got them sorted today £75! By the skin of its teeth ready for its MOT!
