When I drive my P38a with the front windows open I get a smell of exhaust fumes I cant see any leaks or holes in the exhaust and I don't know where the fumes come from any advice would be much appreciate

Please don't tell me to drive with the windows closed tried that and its to dam hot

Could be a leaky manifold gasket, if you have a derv the turbo is on that side so any of those gaskets could be leaking. Tried the standard zorts test? Stick your hand over the tail pipe, either the pressure will blow your hand backwards or you'll hear a whistling. You'll then want a small child (you may need to borrow one) to work out where the noise is coming from.

Or just wind up the windows and use the glorious aircon.

Is / are your tailpipe(s) the correct length. An exhaust the wrong length can cause funny effects.

As Bix says, could well be manifold gasket. Mine actually had a leak in the manifold itself, on the flexi section of the drivers side; and could smell the exhaust fumes now and then. Repaired it by mig welding the split.

I had the same, it was my manifold gasket, I couldn't see a definite leak but replaced it and problem was solved :)

....with gloves on :D

I believe a strip of paper held near the exhaust can vibrate in the escaping gases if you have a small hole. Of course, if you're outside and it is windy then that isn't going to help much!

soapy water as opposed to soapy titwank. will help find leaky gasses.
