hey, i recently bought a defender 90 with a 200tdi engine in it. it was a bit smokey when i bought it but i though that was because the turbo was had a leak and was leaking oil, after buyign a new turbo, changind oil and filters, it still producing black smoke(more than it should). also it is spitting oli out from dip stick and white smoke + oil coming from crank breather. is it teh piston rings as i thouhg?

black smoke and white smoke are two different things, these days we also have bisexual smoke, aged smoke,of course theres signs of polish smoke but that is slowly starting to receed in the current climate....anyway i digress.......black smoke is usually a sign of over fuelling...as in too much fuel being given for the amount of air it is to mix with,so id be looking at the fuel managment side to cure that fault especially as youve recently replaced the turbo
the whitesmoke problem, oil 'in your dipstick'sounds like the sump is being pressurised, and as you say...the main culprit is usually worn rings,anyway......what im trying to say is it sounds like yu have 2 different problems going on mate

aye i hear what your saying, well al probly try n sort out the fuel issue tommor n then see about getting rings replaced, thanks
