I bought a scruffy 110 cheap with lots of rust, i thought i'd share my progress of removing the rust and making repairs where i can.

Fitted a new replacemant rear crossmember, its nice to see when the body is refitted that i got my measurements correct. :)

Then i cut off all the outriggers and did this instead:

O/s door bottom repair: Just used inch box section with a thin 90 degree section welded to it to slide behind the ally door skin

Thats about all i done at the moment apart from fitting new turrets and shocks all round.

Next i Gotta repair that bit of the A pillar that you can see in the front out rigger picture and repair the other door bottom, fit new hinges to that door and then i will start preparing to paint.
 
Like your idea of a flat steel on the inch box for the door bottoms,neater than the pop rivets I have used.cheers

Thanks, they are solid you can jack off them and everything.

what colour have you chosen,?

Battleship blue, which is more of a light grey really.

My boss reckons it will look like primer, but i think once all the edges are black and with black cheqer plate and decals, it will off set the pale colour and look good i hope.

Time will tell. :)
 
Started repairing the other door bottom today, took some pictures for those interested.

This is what needs curing:

First i cut out the corners the best i could and then carefully ground through the mitred steel edges, being careful not to go all the way through to the door skin.
Then Pryed up the door skin carefully:

Then i cleaned the inside of the door skin very throughly and test fitted the section to be welded in.

By using a combination of one inch box section and a thin 90 degree section, a strong bottom door section can be constructed.

the sections are tiger sealed and then clamped into postion, i will let the sealer set over night and then weld it all up in the morning.

I'm pleased with this afternoon's progress, after welding it up tommorrow, i shall fit new door hinges and proceed to paint preperation.
 
hope bottom of my doors don't look like yours, i have not dared to look yet :suspicious:
 
Woops mine look like this at the bottom , still will tackle them both when it gets warmer. good photo's which will come in useful , nice work.
 
Its amazing what you can do with a little thought, some scrap steel, and a mig welder. Satisfying as well when you look at the finished job and realize how much fun you've had and beer tokens saved.

My drivers door is due the same sort of repair but I'm waiting for warmer weather so I can drive around with the doors off if necessary :) As Puffin says the pictures will be useful as a handy reference.

Grim! If you driving in rivers all the time then they aint going to last too long. lol

I cant believe how much defender doors fetch on ebay, much cheaper to repair them, cost me a tenner for the steel box section and a day out of my life!

I keep meaning to repair mine, but I want to get Series doors instead....
