hi there is a petition currently going on the goverments web site, to change tax exemption for historic vehicles. the change would mean rather than a fixed date for historic vehicles there would be a rolling 25 years.
essentially as your car gets older and passes 25 years old you would then no longer need to pay your road fund license.
for all of you driving historic landys, and those who support the tax exemption for historic vehicles, please click on the below link and put your name on the list, currently there are 1500 ish on there.

thanks for your support

dont waste your time, the historic vehicle class started off as 25 years rolling and the gov. realised how much money they were losing, thats why it was fixed at anything before 1972. these online petitions really are a waste of time, i suppose it started off as a good idea but then like everything else, turned silly. if you look down the list of petitions you will see what i mean.

Nice bay you have , low indicators guess you just squeezed tax exemptness ,I have heard that last year Britain imported more tax exempt buses than ever before...

Stoke on trent ,you never know someones parent might have a sence of humour...

I think they have a rolling tax thing in the isle of man ...

My mot man rekons that the government maybe bring in a two year mot in line with a lot of euro countries ,that must be good news for rustbuckets...:D

Signed it , dispite yellows optimistic outlook...

i think you mean pessimistic, optomistic is when the glass is half full, pessimistic is when its half empty but i am neither, just realistic ;)

Signed it dispite yellows realistic outlook..:D

I just thought , what about emissions ,now the tester turns his compy on and your bus/landy can tick away and not get any tubes stuck up it`s exhaust ,just a visual check....

Maybe open the floodgates for 25 year old vehicles , not to get there CATS etc changed...

why should you not have to pay your share just cos you have an older car?
the idea was thought up by histroical car club members to allow those that have historical vehicles and use them only on the odd occassion, like the london brighton run ,to own such vehicles without having to pay for a full years road tax.
the gov probably back peddled when the amount of abuse the system was getting got out of hand.
in other wurds, if you use a 30 year old car, everyday, that is polluting the globe with excess emissions then you should pay up the same as everyone else. if you only use it occasionally then you should be exempt no matter how old it is.
i.e you have a landy you just use fer playing in the mud at the weekend

Cos it`s classed as historic vehicle ,for the next generation to enjoy...A bit like a old house...

I agree ,but don`t agree with buying such vehicles and locking them away until the sun comes out...

Importing tax exempt splitscreen/bay buses from the USA/south Africa should be stopped or should have to pay the road tax..imo...

Well as far as I can tell the bricks came from Lincolnshire and the slates came from Wales, the timber was second hand from old ships so I don't know where it came from. Does this count?

mm what is the exact date of manufacture of the main part. and does it have a split bay window?

cheers mate, its a 71 so missed cut off by a couple of years.

my look at it is this, the government earn more each year from road tax than they spend on repairing the roads.

my disco runs on 100% bio deisel so causes little or no co2 emissions.

the government does not charge road fund license to reduce global warming, thats supposedly why they increase fuel duty. if they were serious about reducing global warming then why not reduce the fuel duty on energy efficient and environmentally friendly energy.

i dont give the government more money than they ask me for, if you wanna give more im sure they'd accept it.

im happy for more british built vehicles to be classed as historic, in years to come range rover sports, discovery 2 and freelander 2 will all be looked upon with cherished memories. looking at cars such as TVR who are an excellent piece of british engineering, shouldnt they be saved for the future generations to enjoy, like morris, austin, humber and commet?

anyway, i have 4 cars and vans, but can only cause wear and tear to the roads and pollute the atmosphere 1 car at a time
