is this the engine that was turbocharged and called phazer? if it is then i drove a n/a one in a lightwieght series3. it had rover 90 car diffs and an overdrive. all i remember is how it pulled, awsome went from wakefield to midgley(about 5miles all uphill) in 4th and overdrive. the owner claimed it would cruise at 80mph on motorways.

Hi
Anyone got any experience with the big 3 .9 litre perkins Na diesel?
thanks
Probably a 4/236, they are a great engine, very strong and torquey. I have heard they can be fitted in a landy, but not seen it myself. I have had its smaller brother, the 4/203, in a landy and it was great, a real stump puller, but very slow on the road by modern standards.
This engine was more usually found with a cast sump in tractors and industrial engines, probably found in a good few boats anorl. All of this famiy of engines are very strong reliable and economical, but as before, not powerful by modern standards. Lots of low revving torque but low bhp.

Yep I had the 4/203 in a series 3 88, it would pull houses down with the torque but anything past 45mph was near enough impossible with standard diffs and box.

If it's the same as the Izuzu 3.9 NA fitted to Australian series 3's there's one 200 m from me ;)

Slow as ewt though haha
