just wondering if there is any way of getting an oversized intercooler for my 300tdi disco without paying 400 squid?
 
thinking of adding one and turning up the pump to get more power. i put bigger tyres on and lost all the bottom end.
 
Not really no :lol: I will be fitting one off a Subaru Impreza but only because it's about the right size and is lying around. You could do the numbers but you'll probably find a "bit" bigger in terms of volume is what you need. Whether that's same frontal area and a deeper core, same thickness of core and a bigger area or a combination of the 2. Have a look at the one that's on it then go and see what you can find, take some rough measurements and see how it all fits together. There will be some routing of pipes, cutting stuff out the way maybe and stuff like that but that's all part of the fun.

...............and that's a wise move since a WRX FMIC is known for its flow rate capability and efficiency and that's what the OP is trying to achieve.

That being said, I don't think a fast flowing FMIC will change the lower end power gains even with the pressure turned up on the FPR.

The big tyres have killed your pick-up response time, me thinks.

change your 28D 1.222 transfer box to a
22D 1.410 or perhaps a 34D and you will gain your
bottom end response back in sacrifice of some top end.

Dan, that's a good point you make. I have so many pals with the FMIC conversion fitted (and me not being a Scoobie man) than I always revert to the front for reference.

The other problem is that my car (in the Avatar) is so fast that I never get a chance to see the front end of a WRX when I pass it at speed:rolleyes:

ok which vehicles run these transfer boxes? how do i tell them apart?
 
I read on a forum somewhere that a Supra one will fit. I cannot remember for the life of me which Supra or where I read it. Not a lot of help I know:nothingtoadd:

Now you’re talking my language.

If he can buy a nice re-conditioned SMIC for a Supra MkiV Twin Turbo then he will be well away. It’s a very small unit but it can easily support 400 BHP without maximising its heat-soak levels. He will need to create some form of ducting to help assist the directional airflow but the size and the core shape would be ideal for a Landy.

An SMIC should be 50-100 quid on the second-hand market.
