Hi All

Is there any sites that you use that insist on insurance on vehicles or offers insurance for non road legal / specials?

Just looking into the running of pay and play sites.

many thanks

Not that i know of.

MOst sites require road taxed vehicles, MOT and driver insurance - this will be to qualify for their own commercial liability insurance.

Some places do specials days, and/or sometimes they are let on site, but mostly its a no-no on your average pay n play.

i think :D

hiya
there is one 4x4 pay and play site i've been to that allows vehicles in that aren't mot'd or taxed, but all have to be insured.(though how they check i'm not sure, as they have so many vehicles in there, doing stupid things it's dangerous)
i went once, paid my membership for the year, and my entry fee, drove round a bit, then got ****ed off with all the tossers and went home.

Isn't insurance void without a valid MOT certificate?

Most car insurance will have a clause which won't cover you on an event such as pay & play day. Its not a legal requirement anyway, since its private land, not a public highway. However, some pay/play places want only road vehicles there, so they ask for tax/MoT (if applicable)/driving licence/road insurance, as a check for this. 2 that spring to mind are Cowm Quarry and (used to but no longer) Tong (Parkwood). Bala 4x4's rules say cars must be road legal although they don't physically check the documents, you simply sign and declare it. Hill & Ditch and Silverdale allow non-road-legal. Silverdale is interesting in that the site is adjacent to 2 green lanes, so in theory if you made use of these (for loading/unloading, etc) you'd need to be road legal but in practice it doesn't occur.

As I understand things, some pay & play sites' public liability insurance has the condition that its only road legal stuff, presumably to reduce the risk and therefore reduce their premium, keeping the entry fee more affordable.

Hope this helps.

would have thought so, but them's the rules they've got on the application form and on the website Home | www.muddybottom4x4.com site requirements is at bottom of this page

All vehicles MUST be insured, however we do now allow non MOT'd vehicles onto the site. Anyone driving recklessly will be asked to leave the site immediately. This is for safety and others around you.

yeah right then! especially when the marshalls are encouraging said tossers to do even more ridiculous things.....

Well.... we go to Whaddon...

No Insurance required. My 11 year old drives so no license necessary...

Common sense prevails... never seen any one dead yet

Hey ho... original fun location

we do go to various pnp sites on club days out. i enjoy them as we know most of the people and it is all run and marshalled properly. we help each other out and have fun.
that is what we go for. i am trying to get the kids more involved, as it is a family orientated club, but not many of the other members bring their kids, so there isn't much call for kid activities ....and the cycle continues!lol
that one pnp site is the only one where i've had a bad experience, and as you say if common sense prevails, all is usually well.

Theres a P&P site just outside Luton called The Devils Pit nice site, they allow non Road Legal motors, Should have seen some of the motors running about, some of the looked like they were gonna be dropped of at the scrap yard. mind you this was 2 years ago. we were running a Series 3 no mot/ tax
all we had to do was sign a waver about any damage

Devils pit Is a crap site IMO. Been there got bored started doing silly stuff because I was bored then damaged the motor. Managed to destroy every oil seal on the motor and chipping the crap off the next weekend sucks.

Sorry LandyUK, I'm no fan of Devils pit it was expensive, full of dodgy motors Gypos in stolen paj's etc and out of control on the occasions I have been there. We have trialled there a many years back now and its ok once or twice but the P&P I will never go back and its about 10 mins away!

Best bet is a club

Whaddon now its ok not many hilly bits but enough to keep you entertained and the mud will not destroy your vehicle is a bonus!

I remember when Devils pit was being laid out by the owner donkeys and I know personally the motors and some of the people that was invited to make it a site it was good back then one of the first P&P but nowdays its pants.

Best bet is join a club, they offer drive arounds similar but more organised safer and even tyros this Will be more extreme than you first think and will make your youngster a bloody good driver after a year or two of regular driving.

Devils pit is great !

Yeah theres loads of " gezzars " there and dodgey Polish chavs in Jeeps but theres plenty of fun aswell.

I also go up to Yarwell near Peterboro and that is a little more civilized !. ( and you can take non road going vehicles ).

Del.

Hey fella, just took a look at the herts site. It's a shame because it is not being updated or maintained and I reckon it could generate a load more members with some thought, planning and a little attention to updating regularly.

I personally went on ther to see whether there was a pub meet or somethign similar like we do over here - their diary does not seem to extend into 2010.

I am sure they are a great bunch and life does seem to intrude on internet activities... but the site could be a brilliant tool if kept up to date.
