I'm trying to build up a replacement engine for my 2A diesel, and at present all I can find in my parts stash are four newish looking parallel type heater plugs.
I can't find any information on them in any of my workshop manuals, the S3 genuine manual shows the earlier in series type, with the balance resistor.
Do I need to use a balance resistor with the parallel type plugs ?
And if so, will the 2A resistor work OK, or is it different ?

For parallel plugs you don't need the ballast resistor. Wire with good quality cable, about 30 Amp, fed through a relay with a timer or warning light.
You will also remove the final lead from plug to block.

Many thanks, both of you.
I ran into a major **** up when I tried to fit the series type heater plugs into the head on the hybrid 12J engine I was fitting.
A trip to a local motor factors yielded supposedly the correct 12mm threaded plugs (actually NGK) which seem to be working OK.
Got them wired to the 12 volt side of the ballast resistor at present, which means that the full current is going through the ignition switch, probably not a good idea.
I'll shortly be sorting out a 30A relay and a 12V bulb, along with some better quality wiring, to make the job a good 'un
