I have just bought my Son an S2a diesel for the tax exempt and cheap insurance plus to keep up with Dad and Daughter in owning a Landy, also bought an S2 for one of my employees to use! My question is about Parabolic springs 1/ are they a big gain in comfort? 2/ do they still cause the Landy to bounce around on badly repaired roads?
I was comtemplating making an 88" hybrid with a spare 100" rolling chassis that I have lying around, purely to get the 2a onto coil sprigs or are the parabolic's such a large advance on the original multi leafs?
Any comments for or against will be welcomed.

As far as springs are concerned, do a search. I think it was Ashoofacks thread (what happened to him) where some one said they couldn't tell the difference. There was a lot said about burning bushes! in the same thread.
 
I have parabolics on a Series One, unloaded thay are some improvement but not huge but, put some weight in it and it's almost as good on the road as my 110. Off road the articulation is vastly improved I think my issue is that I run a Montego engine which is much lighter than the original.

I have a series 2a and a mate of mine who upgraded his lightweight wit parabolics said it made a huge diffrence.

I havent fitted them to mine yet but i might.

Cheapest i've found is £200.

The recommended shockers are about 40 or 50 quid for each one.

.... Id keep the original shockers.

For extra comfort, the easiest and cheapest way is to fit some decent seats.
Series 2 seats are rubbish! i had a sore arse after driving for an hour!

So i found a Hyundai Lantra in a scrap yard, immaculate leather seats.
Took the runners out and replaced the ones in my 2a.
Got them for £10 each, Bargain!

I don't think you will be able to run with standard shocks with Parabolics they are way too short. I have Procomps on the front and Monroe gas shocks on the back as they were lying about and fitted really well. I suggest you go for a complete kit of springs and shocks from one of the many suppliers for these now.
 
I would strongly reccommend Chris Perfect parabolics, the purple ones. Just fitted some to my girlfriends sreies 3 which she trials, just did the Mendips with them on, she did much better than at the Basky with her old springs on!! They made a hell of a difference, instead of bouncing everywhere it actually drives now. Make sure you fit longer shockers like +2 pro-comps or something cos standard ones are way too short therefore defeating the object of improved articulation. Which is what they are designed for of course, everyday driving not a lot of difference, a little smoother perhaps.
 
When we get around to fitting new springs on our landys, they are normally flat and knackered. When I changed mine on my lightwieght I used the cheapest new springs and shocks I could find and the difference was amazing. The ride was excellent.
Think of this way, if your springs are knackered, anything will feel like an improvement.
 
i know 2 landy owners who have done the mod.
one says it wasnt worth all the expense and effort, for a small improvement.
the other one says it was a brilliant mod. far better than the old standard leaf springs.
