Hello,

Stuck with a fault on my car. Range Rover Vogue, L322, 2004 Diesel.

Yesterday the alarm was emitting a beeping noise and we got in and stopped it, but the key would not even turn in the ignition. My other half tried various things, whilst I searched on here, YouTube etc. We tried various things but it seemed the immobiliser just was not playing and in the end removing the battery completely and charging it to full overnight and replacing it solved that problem and it now starts.

Now however, although the indicators and high beam work, the panel lights for them do not work. Nor does the radio or the display screen at all. He says the phone does not appear to be charging either. We have changed fuse 49, the sat nav has been removed for over a year as it was blown and caused other problems and there is no damp in that area, nor in the nearside rear where the connectors are. Other half has cleaned up a few connectors which looked a bit grubby but still nothing.

Any ideas? He thinks it might be an earthing issue somewhere but is confounded as to where and it takes a lot to confound him, hence my asking for help.

Thank you.

Go around and check all the earth's leads to see if there is anything at all that resembles corrosion.
Take a jump lead and clamp to the negative on the battery and connect to the engine on some metalwork and see if it changes anything, also try connecting it to the battery negative and chassis. If it gives results then you do indeed have an earth lead problem.
If not then it will at least help to rule one thing out.

Having to recharge the battery may be a clue, what voltage do you have across the battery terminals?

About 12 and 1/2 but 14 when running
About 12 and a half? Sounds low and it should be at least 14.7 at 2K rpm. Half an hour after coming off charge you should see 12.8 volts or more. Low batteries cause all manner of problems

Hi Each

Thanks for the replies.

Fingers crossed it is fixed. Apparently the problem was with the I-BUS, unit RM54 - the radio. Sir disconnected it all, cleaned it up and put it back together and we have panel indicator lights, ticks, radio, display etc etc now.

DOH spoke too soon, some of panel lights gone again so removed radio unit and they work now but need new unit. I feel an eBay search coming on!o_O
