I am in the process of restoring a serias 2a and need some advice on painting/ preparation. at what stage to I use etch primer? before or after filler?
I was under the impression etch primer was only onto bare metal and not filler but a local paint shop told me to use filler then primer, before applying final coat..
Thanks for any advice

Etch primer is for bare metal, don't get it confused with plain primer which you spray over the etch primer.

For cleaned-up metal I would suggest filler, then high build primer, then topcoat (x2)
For new/galvanised metal then etch primer, high build primer then topcoat (x2)

Depends on the metal. Bare aluminium is a sod to get paint to stick to long term.
