Can this feature (in the title) be retro-fitted to a vehicle which originally left the factory without the dipping function or is it an impossible task?

My car is a 1997 V8 Auto.

Thanks

I thought they all had it:oops: apparently not.

think you need memory seats as a start, then hope all the wiring is in the loom under the seat.
That’s all I can suggest, as a start.
others may know more, if fact I know there are others that will know more:D

+1 I think it is a feature with the memory seats set up. There is some info in owners handbook about it

You will need at the very least a memory drivers seat to active reverse mirror dip.

Thanks wammers, I have done some research and reverse mirror dipping is apparently enabled when the presence of a drivers seat seat memory outstation is detected so as you say I need to find a second hand switch pack first, then I guess it plugs into the BECM.

The memory seats option is a function of the Hi line BECM, so it may be possible to get it to work without the electric seat positioning. It's not possible with a Lo line BECM.

Pain in the ass that feature..

I'd do without it, especially as my NS mirror goes skyward...

I must admit it’s a feature I don’t like and feel with large wing mirrors is not needed.

Skyward:eek: sounds like it needs resetting.

Mine goes wrong way too. What's the reset protocol please...sorted all windows and sunroof already?

Is this what you asked?Replying within quotes is a brain fazzle:)

if so try this.

Automatic dipping for reverse gear selection
(if fitted)
Vehicles with a driver’s seat memory have a
pre-stored function which causes the mirrors to dip automatically whenever reverse gear is selected. If necessary the mirror positions can be altered as follows:
1. Turnthestarterswitchtoposition’I’or’II’ (do not start the engine).
2. Selectreversegear.
3. Adjusteitherorbothmirrorstothe
desired positions.
4. Press the seat MEMORY STORE switch together with either switch 1 or 2 (whichever corresponds with the driver’s seat memory) for 2 seconds (the message centre displays ’MIRROR DIP STORE

taken from the manual:)

Thanks for that! Didn't realise it was linked with the driver seat memory function!

Switched it off on my car because it kept forgetting to un-dip the drivers mirror.
I decided moving me around to look at the rear-view in the standard mirror positions was less fuss.

Most people turn it off as is problematic. Even with lifted DT I don’t really need it and if I have trailer can just adjust off switch pack controls

it does not need to be linked to the seat memory.

Put car in reverse.
Set mirror to desired to postion
put car in any gear.
When you select reverse again it will return to your previously set reverse position.

Really? I wonder if that is post 98 models?

Could be. That’s how it works on my L322 - and I think how it worked on my 4.6, but that had full memory seats. i’ll test it on my P38 which does not have memory seats.
Pretty sure it has to be enabled in the BECM, can't be sure as it's not a feature I would want so never looked closely.
