Not wanting to spend £100 a corner for Koni shocks it looks like the easily available alternatives are Pro Comp ES9000 or Monroe. What experience do people have with these, and which one to go for. Ride comfort is important and the suspension is not going to get smashed about off road

Had my konis of ebay £300 all in they are great..well worth that bit more.
 
i have the monroe and they are crap,im looking to replace them i was looking at the britpart dynamic ones,as i don,t want to spend a fortune just yet,as im looking into renewing the exhaust,to stainless

I didn't here good stories about the Britpart so wasn't considering them. May do, to do some research.

I know,yes you can pay £400 and more..however if you look around i am sure you could get them for £300-£350.....and remember you arn't payin £300 for them as you may pay £150-£200 for other sets..so the diff is only say £100. if you keep the car 4 years thats £25 a year.. and remember you can stiffen them over time as they weeken (as they all do).
 
I have just purchased 4 boge shocks for £88.00 from flea bay, I think they have shared the tag of OE with armstrong over the years. For that price I thought they are worth a try. I'll report back how they ride once I've fitted them.
 
I replaced my originals with Britpart, which i presume to be original equipment spec, but i feel they are too stiff, the ride seems a bit crashy.
Obviously they are stiffer than the old ones, but i just presumed that was because the old ones had done 100,000 miles. Any way im thinking of trying genuine Landrover ones.
 
I think even P38's straight off the production line were a bit crashy on uneven surfaces (compared to coil sprung Classics) Thats why personally I wouldn't go for Konis or Bilsteins which have many handling attributes but would make the ride even firmer.
I visited a local indy to have some codes read and he said he would always go for OE with shocks, as they offer the best compromise.
 
The problem is 'good shocks' are different things to different people. I'm not trying to get sports car handling I just wan't a solid comfortable ride. So I'm wondereing if OEs will be the best bet. I don't know if this is typical, but I feel the rear axle is a little bit more lively than the front. So i might try that end first.

So no one have any experience of Procomp ES900?
 
Are the Armstrongs available on fleebay for around £80 for 4 pretty much similar to the OE shocks? There's a load of bad press around the forums on Monroe and Britpart so I guess they are best avoided, but are the Konis the answer to the comfortable road ride or will the ride be even harsher?
My Rangies shocks haven't been changed in years and I wonder if the uneven tyre wear on the drivers side is being affected by them - everything else including alignment has been checked or changed and the tyre pressure is fine, but the drivers side always runs off badly on the outside and its getting worse as time goes on.
I'd appreciate some advice / thoughts on the issue. :doh:

I like mine,on softest setting handle well,the ride may be a little harder? you would have to have a go in one,there are lots of range's with konis i live in the north midlands you could try mine or see if someone is closer?
