first starter dead..what a barstard!

2nd...no oil pressure warning lamp...but wiring to p38 loom good, ie ground wire lamp lights up...

QUESTION..is the p38 1997 4.6 warning switch a standard jobbie?ie goes to gnd when no oil pressure??

3rd...no alternator warning lamp..infact glows dim when no ign on, goes out when ign on...

QUESTION...is p38 1997 4.6 alternator a standard jobbie..ie does the brown/yellow wire that goes to becm on p38 do the usuall thingy, ie will alternator gnd the warning lamp (thus lighting it) untill it produces power or does it work opposite way and have some fangled electronics in it that talks to becm??
ie will it work with old school light bulb 9in which case its just ####ed) or will i need to replace it with different old school alternator cos it only works with becm?

thanks

ANSWERS..so far..

painted the engine and starter FARRRRRR to well...no earth from starter to engine!!

big DOOOOOOOOOOOOHHH

wire off from oil pressure switch....AGAIN DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH

alternator....well not sure, tis off now and gonna get it checked tomoz..

The single blade oil switches aren't that good, they either leak oil or just don't work.

The later type with the moulded terminal receptacle are far more reliable, and there's a little single wire loom available to convert from the old to new.
