Hi guys back with another problem on my 1998 rr p38 basically I went to unlock it with the fob but no joy I thought it was the rf receiver and I unplugged the blue antenna cable but still no joy ... Now come the strange part , it unlocked with the key in the lock but once in the ignition I don't get anything on the display no lights on dash apart from srs for a few seconds then it goes out car will not start either battery voltage checked out ok as did relays and fuses courtesy of mozz's help over the phone , could this be a becm fault , the small alarm light isn't even flashing either , I'm at a loss with this

Check the fuse box for sign/smells of burning and make sure the connection to it from the battery is good and not corroded off at the printed circuit board.

Sounds dead battery related....may show Volts on a meter, but have no juice behind it!

Try giving her a jump start: if it is a dead battery, that'll show it up immediately
Range Rovers hate being Jump Started....can be done obviously, but generaly not recommended unless it is an emergency!

+1 on this. Out of nowhere my last battery went from 100% to knackered without warning. Still showed over 12volts on the meter with engine off. Wasn't convinced it was the battery but was left with little choice but to change it. It took a further 12 months of trouble free motoring with the new battery to finally convince me it was the battery. These P38 just seem so reliant on perfect batteries.

If correct procedure is used there should be no problem. Diesels connect jump leads straight to battery. NEVER do this on a petrol. For petrols. Positive lead to battery, negative to a clean earth point as far away in the engine bay that you can get from the battery.:):)

Hey thanx for the replys yeah tried the eka with no joy and the car won't turn over al all I even tried a jump start pack on it but again no joy , I have checked all the battery terminals and done the "sniff test" on the fuses and relays under the bonnet also tested the continuity on the fuses , the same thing happened a few months ago but I left it over night and it started the next morning no problem which again is leading me away from the battery

With the jump pack, did you have more life from the Dashboard....the lamps do a self check....if all your getting is the SRS lamp, try looking at Fuse 1 and make sure that is OK...if it isand you still have no life in the dashboard....suspect Battery, fuse box or BeCM

No still the same with the boost pack no self check no display on dash or heater controls just srs light for a few seconds then goes out it was fine on Wednesday night I parked it up came back out to it the next day and nothing

Why not?

Is it a good jump pack? I thought I had a good one but it could never start the P38 when the battery was dead flat. A proper jump start would give you more of a clue.

If the battery is completely flat, a jump pack is unlikely to raise the voltage enough for the car to start.

Doesn't make sense that you have only one light ie srs if your not getting oil light battery ect if be looking at fuse box first have you disconnected battery taken fuse box out and check all connectors to it , even if your battery was low enough to light the srs it should show oil light and battery light .

Not taken the fuse box out yet and yeah it's a good boost pack I use it on 12 and 24v scissor lifts and cherry pickers guess my next move is taking fuse box out completely

If no ignition lamps light on dash when ignition is turned on. Providing battery is charged it has to be faulty ignition relay 15 i would think.
