Did all P38s come with the ability to display MPG, tank range and the like? I've either not yet figured out how to display it, or there's something wrong with my 1997 DT! From what I've read, it's the buttons that you press in at the end of the indicator stalk, is that all there is to it, or is there a special trick that I'm missing?

Ta!

It is an on/off setting within the BeCM....they all have the ability - but not all 'specifications' of car has it turned on by default.

Diagnostics that can communicate with the BeCM should be able to change the setting.

As far as I know YES! Or at least....all my RR P38's have had it by default.
Do you not have a Drivers Handbook? You can buy them on eBay.
Press the "i" button on the indicator stalk to cycle through the displays.

Cheers, mine does seem pretty basic (less to go wrong?!), so I suspect it's not on. I won't lose any sleep over it, just wanted to make sure I wasn't being too 'special'!

Cheers, Martin

I'll have another look tomorrow, I could be wrong. Doesn't sound like me though :D

EDIT: I don't have a handbook, but I did look at RAVE which has an owners handbook section - was for a '99 model though IIRC - just doing a sanity check really I guess

Upon closer inspection, instead of buttons, there are a couple of plastic blanking caps in the end of the stalk.... It helps when you look at these things in the daytime, I thought the 'buttons' were a bit stiff....

Peering down the stalk, it looks as though the switches are modular as there are the sockets to accept the buttons in there. I wonder if just bunging the buttons in to my stalk would work (and turning it on in the BECM if required)... Might go and browse ebay, see if there are any cheap stalks for sale :D

Loads, £6+p&p upwards

£6 + for the stalk, but a bit more to pay someone to turn on "trip computer" in BECM if you don't have the dedicated diagnostics to do it yourself.

Yep, have a couple of them in the watchlist. Off on my hols the week after next, so I'll look into it when I get back. See if there is anyone local and friendly who would look at the BECM in return for a few beers for me :D

I'm not a million miles from you and have a nanocom but it's for a petrol. However, I think it would work for BECM settings.
I have a customer in Nottingham that I visit a couple of times a year so could call in next time I'm passing if you're not in a rush.

That's a great offer, thanks very much - I'm in no rush whatsoever, so if you could swing by next time you are in the area that would be grand - the kettle is always on and I'll gladly give you some beer money (or some beers!)! I'll PM you my details over :D

I would change the stalk and not try to fit the buttons much easier.Tilt the steering wheel, remove two screws that hold the top of the steering cowl.two torque screws hold the stalk to a bracket, disconnect the multi plug.

Cheers for the info, I'll give it a bash when I'm back off my hols and have got a stalk

Not on my DT either. Something else to go wrong.

Some things need a highline BECM to work but no idea if the trip computer is one of them.
