Help. Have just bought a M reg P38 with an LPG conversion, fitted by Autogas 2000 in 02, which the previous owner has isolated. Quoting from the advert

"Unleaded Petrol but also fitted with professionally installed LPG, ( I am a petrol head so preffered the vehicle on Petrol because always felt gutless on LPG so had it isolated safely however could be connected again as its all there.)"

when I asked how it was isolated she said it was a 5 min job at the back of the engine bay, but she wasn't really sure what was done.

The switch still lights up, the red Led for petrol lights up and remains on when t turned to gas, the amber led will also light up and the bottom LPG level light flashes.

Any idea how is would have isolated ?

Any help really need.

Reading between the lines I would hazard a guess that it is more than a 'disconnected issue' If as stated it was professionally installed there would have been very little loss of power even on a single point system which this probably is. If it has been disconnected it could be as simple as a live feed to a solenoid not in place but I suspect there is a bigger issue than this.

Google LPG forum and you'll find a wealth of information. But for those guys to help out they will need much more information, like type and make of system. Without more info its just guess work at the moment.

Well thanks to the WWW I was able to inspect the engine, with some idea of what the components looked like. To my untrained and in experienced eye it looks like it has been butchered:(. The cooling tubes to the vaporiser have been disconnected and the rubber lpg hose to the vaporiser is also hanging free. I haven't a clue where they go.

It is a Landi Renzo system.

Has anyone got any photos of how and where the hoses should be connected?

The two waterpipes are normally teed into the two hoses going to the heater on the bulkehead. The rubber LPG hose goes to the cooker ring thingymybob on the throttle body if it's single point. If it's multipoint it goes to the injector rails. Don't be tempted to reuse the old hose. Buy new, it's cheap enough. And bear in mind you may need a new tank if it's out of date. Water hoses disconnected from vapourisers usually mean the vapouriser is shot and leaking. Are all the injector emulators in place? It might be it's had another engine fitted and all the engine side bits removed. My last P38 was like that when I bought it.

i would guess the solenoid before the vapourised has been disconnected also. there is one in the tank also. worth a look

Okay for those who are interested here are some photos do my poor butured system. I am making some assumptions now, the vaporiser in beggared and the the ecu needs remapping, I am not sure there is hope.

Photo coming one at a time

Looking at it.....

Don't even think of DIY - get it to a local Autogas service centre and get them to sort it out....that wiring is shocking (no pun) Gas install is not something to feck with....after all you are carrying two tanks of explosive gas under pressure.....

i'd get it on the back of a truck and get it sent away, as Saint said, let an expert who knows the system look at it. and be prepared for a big bill!

i had a similar thin my 4.6 had to take it off ran way to hot was fine when disconnected
and on your tank if you take alloy cover off there should be another soli under there

I have had a approved fitter looked at the "NAG", and there is hope, £500 worth, but hope none the less. It the system has been messed around with and not the orginal fit, and will require a new lume and ecu. I have to check the vaporiser tomorrow to see if it leaks.

He did offer a sequential system, but at 2k, would cost more than the car, what with the cost of petrol, I am going to get the single point re installed. I should save myself the money in petrol, I hope? Back fires here I come!

Get then to fit a 'Fart Flap' - this is a one way valve in the air intake, so if it backfires, it won't damage the MAF
