Good Day

What to do ???

My Range Rover 1996 HSE is loosing water, and can not find the leak. We did a test on the water reservoir and find that there is a slow drop in pressure lost in the cooling system, but can not see any leaks.

During the day the water is at normal level, but the next morning I look at the reservoir, there is no water in it.

I have not seen the Temp gauge rising, stay at the 1st white bar.

look for evidence of limescale around joint, also look for cooland traces. just hope that it aint going into the pots!

I looked all over the place. Can not see a trace of Antifreeze, nor are the foot wells wet.

There were once air bubbles in the reservoir, indicating air in the system.

You've Anti freeze in yer Engine IN NAMIBIA!!!... If it does Freeze there ..then god help the rest of us back in the UK!!!!

HAHAHAHA - It just helps with the extreme heat here, so that the water do not vaporize in the Engine

Antifreeze really helps driving in these conditions continuously..

im having the same problem and its doing my head in. Run perfect but loosing water. I wonder if its the rad as I've had new head and inlet gaskets water pump and still the problem. wonder if its loosing as steam but no tell tale smell of coolant.

That is what I am afraid of. Spending lots of money on new Gaskets and then it is not the problem

Silly Question - Have you checked your Cap that goes on to the Reservoir for not sealing properly or not working any more.

Gents I had a pin prick hole in a hose took ages to track it down worth doing a compression test though

How did you track it down. Did you put it up on garage ramps as looking from above you dont get much clues. Yes I've replaced the cap and its still under pressure in the morning

The did a pressure test on it.

Just replaced the Thermostat , but that was not the problem.

Went for a drive. When back at the garage, all hell brook loose.

Something give way, and all the water was poooooring down the back of the Rangie - Looked like one big green Waterfall.

Mechanics are taking apart to see where the problem is. Will go back in due time to help and learn...

Anti freeze is a must..even in the tropics, it is important as a corrosion inhibitor.
Could be a core plug gone at the back of the block...nasty takes 10 mins. to change...if you can get at it. Worst case scenario if it is the rear core plug, is either engine partially out or drop the gearbox and lower the rear of the engine.
Can't remember seeing any hoses which run at the back of the engine.
