Hi, has anybody uprated the original H4 60/55 wattage main/dip headlight bulbs on a P38 RR to the readily available H4 100/90 wattage bulbs?

I understand they will obviously be brighter, but I am concerned with the extra current they will draw causing problems with the BeCM unit, as on a P38 the bulbs are not individually fused but are fed their current via the BeCM unit.

Anyone successfully running with higher wattage headlight bulbs?

Any help and advice will be appreciated.

Hiya grange

I run on my P38 2x130w H1 ring rally bulbs on the headlights and to date i have had no problems - they are certainly bright but & they are not used constently on

on the main dip i have uprated Philips "50% plus" bulbs which are quite good.

I was tempted to put 90w as the main driving bulbs H4`s but thought against it as they would be the mainnight bulbs & might attract the attention of the feds.

Where the P38 is let down is with the 4w park bulbs - i have put "bright" LED in but at the moment have gone back to the std type as i got sick of the warnings on the header that the fron side l/R had failed.

Ps whatever you place thats over-rated - dont forget to take them out for the MOT

I have had 130W /80 and 100W main auxillary fitted for over 3years now without any problems either with wiring/connectors getting hot, fuses or the BECM. I also have 100W in the fogs. Street lights over here are few & far between over here outside towns and the only cats eyes are from flattened cats.
