Oh! Carole

Hi, new on here but have had 3 x P38's. I drive a '98 auto DSE. Present problem is clunking. When in drive and either slowing down or stopping it clunks from top to third and third to second. When I select third gear and stay there it doesn't clunk at all when slowing down or stopping. Main dealer reckons its the gearbox that needs replacing but tranmission specialist reckons it the transfer box. Gearbox oil and bottom filter were replaced 2 weeks ago but the problem still persists. There is an 1800 quid difference in the two! Anyone any help on this issue. How do I check the level of the transfer box/could this be the chain thats slack. Thanks Carole

If you live in easy distance of Luton/Dunstable take it to Ashcroft Tansmissions and ask them for their opinion. They are well known as Transfer Box gurus.

Roverover to Irishrover over - thanks for that over - Roverover is 200 miles over from Luton over - but recommended transmission specialist in Cleckeaton that's not far over from Rover1 over - so Roverover will try over there over - over and out

Get it over to Yorks. to get it checked over-over and let us know what the outcome is. Luton may be over 200 miles but if it's the transfer box Ashfield are brilliant and will change it over in half a day and their prices are not over the top.
10-4 over
