My p38 has a new problem when coming to a stop approx 3mph I get a slight side to side wobble feel in the car . And also sometimes when reversing I get a noise with more heavy judder . I'm not sure how to check but I'm suspecting the diffs

Diffs are pretty reliable if they have oil in they. I'd look at UJ's for starters.

Is it just play you need to look for

Play, rust stains on the spiders. You need one front and one rear wheel off the ground to check for play.

Grab the front prop, try and lift it up and down. look for lateral play..

Check UJ's as above..

Be aware I ****ed my g-clamp trying this. Only a vice would shift the bugger
