Hi,

I have just got a P38 2.5 DSE and within 2 weeks of having it, i changed from High Ratio to low ratio with the auto gearbox, and as i changed back the select netrual sign came up on the dashboard and has stayed there since.

I have tried everything , eg. selecting neutral and changing back and forth between low and high, taking battery on and off to attempt to reset the ecu (clearly didnt work) but to no avail. There is no gearbox fault coming up just a select neutral sign and i have got the mechanic to plug it in and it doesnt read anything so i am completley confused.

As you all the know the winter is coming up and being somebody that reguarly 'softroads' low ratio would be really helpful as well as being able to use the trip computer as well. As you can see i have a very basic mechanical knowledge but if anybody out that may have any ideas what the problem might be please help :)

Cheers

Ben

It could mean the Transfer Motor (the thing that actually changes the ratio) is stuck.

When Select Neutral Pops up, it means you have tried to select a drive gear before the ratio selection has taken place.

Are you waiting for all the bells and whistle to stop beeping and flashing before selecting Drive??

If not, wait a few seconds then try....if you are waiting and you still get the same message, I would assume the Transfer Motor has packed in....

If you are able to still select either Low or High ratios and drive, albeit with the Select Transfer message...I would consider it to be a selection sensor in the Transfer Box.....but I could be wrong.

Check the connector to the transfer box shift motor, pull it apart and clean it with contact cleaner, look for pins that have pushed back.
