1995 disco 300tdi 300 es auto
A problem happened tonight driving along motorway, disco seemed to flutter a bit, checked i was in D then looked at my temp gauge and it was off the scale pulled over called AA, recovery arrived and its now back on my drive.
Any checks I can do or help appreciated prior to taking to a garage

Mine did this a while ago ... garage said it needed new head etc, and did the work without asking!

Checked it when I got it back and the head would have been fine .... the radiator had no fins left on the inside.

I'd take the cowling off and possibly fan and try to get a good look at the back of the radiator. From the front you couldn't see any damage, but the back was all blown out.

Yep good advice,my disco started overheating on the way to the MOT.When I got there did usual checks and found nothing. Then checked the radiator which was full of mud and a load of the fins had fallen out.

ha ha i did this too. . . .coming back from pay and play, cleaned off the front with the pressure wash at the garage, but the back was full of mud and was lacking a few fins!! new rad sorted out my problems!!

My 200TDI was overheating removed and flushed the radiator still overheating especially during heavy going on the beach, replaced the viscous coupling on the fan and all was cool again, I have heard you can repair them with oil from - can I say the word - Toyota -

Mine gets chocked with mud and as its got aircon it can be a swine to clean.
Check the rad 1st
I once got one so hot that I melted the crowns of 1 and 4 pistons..............
