hi guys,
my wife decided to move the range rover forward a few feet yesterday but failed to then put it park and left it in drive with the handbrake on got out and sat in the passenger seat.

I was in the house for about 5 mins then got in the car there was a clatter and it cut out but started straight away we drove about 2 miles and it overheated I left it ten mins and managed to get the car home this morning I started it up and left it running and it stays constant temp until revs are applied once this happens it over heats I can't see any physical damage and when cool drives perfect the only thing I can see is the water pump has side to side play and the fan is slightly skew from the pump or could it be the thermostat stuck I cannot see and head damage
really stuck now cheers

The pump saft should have no play in it - suspect water pump!

(and teach the wife how to use the Range Rover properly!! :D)

If the pump has play it's fecked, change it and check the viscous at the same time.
