Ok then, new valeo thermostat. Fan working, modified air filter.
Not to modified. Could the air filter be over cooling the engine. I.e. Too much air allowed through engine?
 
If you mean the inlet air filter no. Is the fan locked up is there a roar when you rev engine?
 
Cheers wammers, no. The fan is as free as can be expected. Not too loose and stiffens when needed. I had changed the thermostat as it was stuck open, thank god. Then id fitted a free flowing air filter afterwards. It warms as it should.
So no coolant passing before hand. Then on the move the gauge drops just enough to stop torque lock on the box at speed.?
 
Good suggestion grrrrrrrrrr, but not that. They do what they should and when.
All the anti freeze was recently flushed and changed, no leaks, (yes I know)..
 
That's me out of ideas then! Only other thing I can think of is the stat opening too soon.

Either that or you're dumping the heat somewhere else. Do you like to drive with the heaters on HI?!
 
No heaters on at the mo', all set to low.
Summer an all. Our average outside temp is 29°. The thermostat is specified for this model, diesel. Not ruling out a faulty unit...

Think i would be looking at your new stat.

Thanks, no I didn't. I use a lot of valeo parts and have never had any issue before. That's why I thought I'd just ask, you never know!
 
What exactly is the problem?

Stats tend to operate between 88 and 92 celcius!

If your gauge is showing a lower temp, could it not be the temp sensor?

If it is running too cool, the problem would be serious fuel usage as the engine would "appear" to be running on choke (or rich) and the smell of fuel would be over powering....
 
get diagnostics done. Most cheap drags will read actual engine temp, but better still get Nanocom on it.
 
The gearbox functions very well, cold or hot. When the temp gauge is at twelve o'clock the torque lock up is guaranteed, a bit before twelve o'clock it wont do it. It is a consistent occurrence. When I first changed the thermo' it was behaving brilliantly, then its gone back to the same behaviour as the old thermostat. The gearbox I have no doubts about.
 
Sounds like your stat isn't doing it's job.

It's either faulty, or something is mechanically preventing it from closing like perhaps it's partially come adrift.

Only way to check is open it up and do the boiling water test if nothing obvious is found....
