Anyone else still trying to use the ntl news servers, and been having
intermittant problems for the last few days?

I know ntl has a poor reputation, but the news servers have been OK
for a while so I haven't been motivated to look elsewhere, but, of
late, connection to the servers has been very hit 'n' miss.

Just me or more widespread?

Wait till you try and dump them! All I'll say is cancel your direct debit
promt and make sure you get the names of the operators you speak too. They
are a bunch of incompetant ****tards.

And thats not liable either, cos it's true.

news.individual.net.

OK, not free, but even I can afford 10 EU per year, and it's just about the
most reliable news server around.

I run on NTL using News.Individual.Net for 'decent' newsgroups and
news.ntlworld.com for fun and pron ... ;)

I've had no problems at all with the ntl group other than it's slightly
slower to negotiate when first starting up. Other than that it's as fast,
if not faster, than NIN

With your bank not NTL. When ever I cancel something on DD I always
instruct my bank to remove the DD authority for them that is on my
account. 50% of the time the company will still try and take the DD and
send threatening letters when the DD bounces. I guess it's a nice little
earner, I bet most people don't tell their bank and probably don't check
their statements every month...

In the mean time the company has your money and you have to fight to get
it back, and given the fact the DD is still happening they'll probably
have not carried out your cancel instruction so will try and insist that
the payments are for the service you received *after* you cancelled.
Throw in an indian call center and, well just cancel the DD with your
bank online (to avoid the banks indian call center).

I'm mildly dyslexic. But yes. :) Ta

It took the fookers four months to come and collect their set top box, in
that time they were pretty insistant they were supplying a service.

I'm wondering how long it'll be before they come back for the remote, must
be nearly 18 months now I'd guess.

They pulled their act together when they were advised their conversation was
being recorded and all experience would be posted on their news group server
which it was... bless! Still it got them to pull their fingers out and stop
passing the buck.

I've still got one showing here, text.news.ntlworld.com

used to miss **** loads of posts, then they would double up, then they would
reappear after three months missing in action.

Half their techie's I spoke with don't have a clue what a news group is.
Their concept was if I could get www.bbc.co.uk or google then everything was
peachy.

interesting - we've taken a good few calls recently that would benefit
from having been recorded, I'm becoming more interested in doing so. I
wonder if there's a requirement to announce the fact or if the call
centres simply use that as a stick.

IIRC there's no requirement to announce that a call is being recorded
as long as you are only going to be using the recording for your own
immediate use, e.g. making notes after a technical call. Using the
call recording in a court of law however would not be covered by that
as it's then played to people other than yourself. Ditto forwarding
the call on to a person's boss.

I delivered a sh*tload of kit to them for the last upgrade and met my old
mate Jim, what that lad doesn't know about computers and systems isn't worth
knowing but he works in the warehouse guess they need Uni-grads to totally
feck the system up all the qualifications and not the faintest idea of how
stuff works

You have to announce it.

hrmm - I'm no lawyer and find such documents incredibly hard to decypher,
however it appears to me that it (the document) only covers business and
government use. Personal/domestic comms seem to have been deliberately
excluded.
