After nine years the back box on my 2004 Freelander has gone. It has lasted well and I'm not sure whether to replace it with the Land Rover version or an aftermarket.

Are the aftermarket versions as good?

I don't want to go for the cheapest and then regret it. Don't want to be ripped off either just because it's got a Land Rover stamp on it!

Has anyone else gone through this dilemma?

cheers,

Land Rover used best quality exhaust available to them. They are expensive but look how long they last! After market motor factor type exhausts last no time at all. Or go for a Stainless exhaust which will last forever.

Not sure it would fit, but it looks real nice..

Car manufacturers dont make there own exhaust's so fiend who makes them and buy theirs (ie Peugeot use Bosal) cheeper to buy Bosal than from Peugeot.
So fiend out who make landrover exhaust's, or better still buy a stainless steel one.:scratching_chin:

it depends on how long you are going to keep the car and how much you want to pay
an after market back box will last 2-4 years maybe more if you are lucky
and as has been said s/steel is the better choice
like you but on my mgf the rear box after 15 years gave up it had 1997 stamped on the box it was just a little more in price to get a s/steel back box as a basic after market one

If its a td4 , look up td4 exhaust sections , after market back box did the job for £40 , and was smaller in profile (better ground clearance)
