Ok Guru's

Had the disco for a week, so far so good. Just been changing the oils and lubricants. Couldnt find any how too's so guess you fill to the top of the filler holes (like on any other car) on the diffs, transfer, and gearbox. Saw there was two filler holes on the transfer, so I filled to the bottom hole, is this correct?

Also noticed I have a coolent leak from a small manufactured hole under the water pump beneath the drive. Is this the gasket, or should I change the water pump? Is the water pump on the timing belt, so I should change the belt at same time? Is the belt behind the alloy cover, its a pretty hardcore cover for a t-belt. I actually orriginally thaught it was a chain untill I saw paddocks had an ad for t-belts for this motor. Does anyone have a how to on changing water pump and t belt for a 2.5tdi 200 disco?

Thanks in advance for the help, Jim

if the waters coming from the hole under the water pump m8 then it's the pump thats on it's way out:rolleyes:

Thanks for the tips, I allready ordered myself a haynes a few days ago, got to wait for it to arrive though. On my transbox theres definately 3 holes, as I filled in the top hole on the left side whilst facing vehicle forward direction) untill it came out the hole at the back by the brake, and of course the drain is on the bottom. Is this unusual?

Ordered a new water pump and t-belt kit. Whilst I waiting for the haynes is there any how to's on the net on these? Thanks jim

Hi Jim, on the tdi 300 gear/transfer box setup, there are the following holes:

1. Gearbox - 32mm bolt for the sump plug and T55 plug on the drivers (rhd) side higher up for the level/fill hole. 'Box takes MTF94 or Dexron IID or III, approx 2.5ltrs;

2. Transfer box - half inch plug for the sump and the level/fill half inch plug facing backwards just above the handbrake drum, obscured slightly by a thick rubber-covered cable.

Replacing the water pump is easy peasy. Slacken the water pump pulley three retaining nuts, take off the alternator belt (which drives it), by applying a 15mm socket and long lever to the tensioner - turning anticlockwise - remove the pulley then remove the approx 6 pump retaining bolts.

Clean off the mating surfaces, apply a little Blue Hylomar and install the new water pump.

Top up the coolant via the access on the thermostat housing - could be a black plastic or brass plug.

If I were you I would be checking the condition of the other components driven by this belt, at the same time - just in cases.

Good luck

Dave
