Engine oil for diesels has higher detergent and is usually labelled "for diesels" - I usually stock up on what's cheap when it comes up in my local Tesco.

I use Millers 20W / 50 classic - a quality old school mineral oil but with good additives.

1981 Series 3 diesel 2.25
