I noticed that alot recently looking at oil

You dont get left with any for a mid change top up how

4.5 l is almost exactly 1 gallon, so good old imperial measure that everyone understands

I have just picked up 8 litres of 10/40 semi synth for about 16 quid, bargain

Costco have Chevron Supreme 15W40 Semi-Synthetic Diesel oil for £44 (inc VAT) for a 20 litre drum. That's what we use in our V8.

Not the cheapest, but it is a quality oil.

Since I have been using this, Halfords | Halfords Classic Oil 20W50 5L. I have found my V8 runs quieter and smoother and leaks less.
