The usual minefield when buying oil these days- the Castrol book says 0-30 Edge, or 10/40 B3. Halfords say 10/40 turbo diesel oil, so much choice!
Anyone got any good ideas for an old Defender with a 300 tdi, please?
cheers,
jim.

As he said, they're not fussy. Just change it regularly. I'm a firm believer of the 3000 mile oil change interval, especially where I live. Temperatures are high, environment is rather dusty and most trips are very short.

Could I use 5 30 fully synthetic ?
Not really, could cause more problems for the engine, use a decent quality oil, change it regularly, depending on your driving style.10w40 is recommended.

They are always upgrading the recommendations, basically trying to sell what they make now, works for them. Most of those oils didn't exist when your vehicle was designed. Try looking in the owners book that came with your motor, if you have it. That will suggest the oils that the makers intended at the time.

This is what I use http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20-Litre-...0857339303?hash=item460c7eada7#ht_1948wt_1037
Delivered to your door and £ per litre isn't bad either.

thems the lads,i`m havin 20l of 5w30 next time round.
Those look like a very good deal! :)
This is the one I use, a very high spec diesel oil, you can see the TIR7400 and ACEA E5/E7 classifications on the label.
I get it from the local oil merchant, at the roundabout on the way to Hayle. About 50 quid for a drum last one I bought, Maybe less now, oil prices are falling.
