please excuse my ignorance but having bought a series 3diesel lump to put in my series 2 I have noticed 1 or 2 bits missing one part has me completley puzzeled it is something that screws into the top[ of the oil filter housing and looks like it connects to a rubber hose on the other side of the engine. Any help in identifing the part would be greatly appreciated. cheers, Alan

no don't think so someone told me that the one on top of the oil filter is an oil breather but I don' know if this is correct,if anyone knows I'de appreciate the advice. cheers alan

Must have piccys!
Can't think what you mean as the oil filter has nothing that can be screwed into, being a spin off cartridge.
Is there any possibility you mean oil filler? As this has a rubber tube which is routed to the intake manifold.

its where the oil pressure sensor goes originaly it should be a lecci switch sensor but sounds like its been converted in the past for an oldschool analogue oil pressure gauge

Yup - oil pressure warning light switch part no. 90519864 washer part no. 232039. Spin off cartridge? ha! we should be so lucky.

Er yeah, lol. Er no I don't understand anymore. Doesn't everthing use spin on filters now?

Now being the operative word. The design of the series engine goes back a long way.
Spin off filter = little spillage when replacing.
Series cartridge filter = half a pint of oil up your sleeve when replacing.

they are cartridge filters spin on type, modern paper element type usually sit in a housing you remove top from so you dont loose the oil like series did

I like hot oil up my sleeve...if you're really clever you can leave the bucket you drained the oil in under the filter, unscrew the retaining bolt. Then the hole lot drops into the bucket and not only do you get it down your arm you get it in your nose, eyes, ears, all over the floor!

Yes that sounds 'fun'. I suppose if you warm the engine fully then you get the bonus of first degree burns.
