Hi Guys, I wonder if anyone can indicate to me if I should be worried. I have a disco 1 200 tdi, the vehicles been fully serviced its whole life. Rescently I have been doing some hard towing with it, I live in the mountains so it needs to climb some steep hills with reasonably prolonged climbs with a heavy load. To give you an idea I need to go into low range, the last time I weighed the vehicle train weight was 6.5 ton. Allthough the vehicle performs ok, with no visual sign of over heating and pulling fine, I notice that when the temperature is high, 3/4 on the guage but bellow the red, approx 110/115 degres on my secondary (back up) guage, the oil warning light flickers when at idal. As soon as you the rev the engine it go's off again and it only does this when the engine is very hot after a climb. Should I be worried that the engine is showing the first sign of age. Its done 220km with full service history. I tend to do preventitive maintenance so if there is something I should think about changing I would rather do it then damage the engine. Thanks for the advice, cheers Jim

get a gauge to check the actual pressure, because the sensors can play up. It might be with changing yo oil. what spec oil do you use?
I wouldnt worry unduly tho.

Sounds like a good idea I'll get a secondary oil pressure guage, never fitted one before where would you plumb this in?

I use 10w/40 oil in summer, and thinner 5w/30 or 40 in winter. Change oil every 5000km, and filter every 10000km. Which reminds me should change the oil as allthough I have not done another 5000km its been 6 months so probably time for a change!

Problem solved replaced oil and filter!!! Simply poor Basic maintenance. I consider myself to be an anal mechanic and car owner as I work my disco hard, I try and change oil every 5000km and filters every 10000km, it just go's to show how important good oil is. the oil I just changed was only on 3000km, and filter on 8000km but filter had been on since January this year (8 months) and the oil was 4-5 months old. Since I changed it this morning I have done 3 loads of 3.5 t climbing up the 5 km 800m vertical climb and the engine runs 10 degrees cooler and no sign of the oil light at idal. I'm convinced quality oils and even stricter oil changes from now on, as they say cheapest form of maintenance.

An anal mechanic ? Well, its a dirty job, but someones gotta do it,as they say.............

:rolleyes::D:D:D:rolleyes:

sorry ! someone was going to say it eventually ,and I got stressed out waiting.........
