Hi,

I bought a new radiator for my 200tdi defender and now in the process of trying to fit it. I went to connect up the oil pipes but the connections seem different than the original.

Both the hose and the new radiator fitting seem to be males, unlike the original where it has a removable female on the radiator. The male fitting on the new rad is welded in place so i cant unscrew it and replace it with the old female. Any help / solution welcome

Thanks
Aaron

Normally you can unscrew the adapters from the old rad and screw them into the new one, but in your case it looks like your new ones are welded. Looks like you will need some sort of new adapters. I would try somewhere like pirtek who should either provide adapters or make new oil pipes.

I've had the same problem, after checking the oil cooler pipe thread was comparable with the thread on the mew rad, I drilled the new rad to a diameter to suit the oil cooler pipe and screwed them together and it all works

I follow what you had done "johnlad" and it sounds like a good trick, I will try figure out the bit size tomorrow try on a sample piece first.

Failing that i guess track down adapters on Monday or worst case new pipes.

Cheers Guys

thread size if i remember rightly was M20 on mine and drill size was 12mm, just go careful as you dont want to drill to deep into the rad.
looking at your cooler pipes, I think they might be a different type to mine, as the diameter of your pipework looks bigger than the threaded section on your new rad
