Hello again to all

I knew there were three things that needed doing when I bought my 200tdi Rangie classic.

First was the cambelt - done that but it's turned into a semi bodge job because one of the water pump bolts has snapped.

Second was the viscous coupling - done that but had to fork out the thick end of £400 for the priveledge.

Lastly I've never been under any car with more oil on the underside of the engine. I have read up on the half moons and rocker cover gasket etc. but what really surprises me is that after about 8 days of sitting over the pit in the garage (engine not run) oil is still seeping out of the rearmost sump bolt area. I have tightened the bolt - which was a bit loose - but it's still coming out.

Any ideas? Please don't tell me it's the rear crank oil seal :(

you can do this without removing engine or box , just split them and lie on your back in the oil and ****te . TAKE THE ****ING BOX OUT AND DO A PROPER JOB , unlike main agent's , robbing bastards . man up , we all got Landrovers cos we don't have a life !!!!!!!!!!!!!....... ;-)
 
Definitely? It's not just the sump needs resealing? Oil is not dripping out of the bottom of bellhousing wading plug hole, and the clutch doesn't slip.

What I don't understand is why oil is still weeping after the engine has not been run for 8 days.

I would say the oil leak is from the rear flywheel housing to block joint

Best way to find out is clean everything off shiny and new and then wait for the oil to appear......with engine running if you can....not a lot of fun waiting there with a light but at least you'll know
 
OK there are at least 2 clear oil leaks on the engine. First one is from exhaust manifold on the cylinder nearest the radiatior (guess no 1 cylinder). I assume the gasket has gone but the manifold looks like it's not seated correctly at the cylinder head - there looks to be a small gap from where oily goo is oozing when engine running and dripping down all over the front of the engine. So looks like new exhaust manifold and gasket?

Second oil is seeping from behind the rearmost sump bolt - directly behind the bolt. It then pools at the bottom of the bellhousing and drips off. So assume sump sealant needs replacing? Also noticed a trace of oil from bellhousing plug - but just a trace. no more, which must mean rear crank seal on way out.

Any advice gratefully received

You have oil coming from the exhaust manifold???

I think you got more than a manifold gasket problem there mate :(
 
That will be the head gasket leaking its the oil feed up to the valve gear.
You might get away with resealing the sump but it sounds more like the rear main t seals are leaking, dont forget theres two joints on the sump, the sump itself and the alloy stiffener that the sump seals to.
