I have an oil leak situated below the oil filler.
I had the engine steamed clean as unsure of where it was leaking. Drove a couple of hours and oil appears to be leaking from camshaft carrier joint. Oil is going out on top of the black plastic air intake manifold. It's not caused by an oil spillage during filling of from the vacuum pump. Volume wise it's not massive, it's not running down the side of the engine.
I'm wondering if its the camshaft carrier to cylinder head?? I've not worked on an engine with this style of head, they only have a cylinder head gasket and rocker box gasket....
Is this a common oil leak and if left will it cause additional problems? Do I need to remover the head and all of the valve springs etc or is it possible to split off the camshaft carrier carefully without disturbing camshaft, valves, injectors etc. Is there an actual gasket there? From what I can see in the workshop manual it appears to only be sealant.
It's a 2010 2.4 with just over 100k on the clock. If I do dive in is it worth replacing the timing chain or anything else?
Ideally, I need to do a 2 hour, either way, trip before taking it off the road. I think it's been like it for a while so as long as engine oil topped up ok?
