hi , im posting this for a friend who as a 3 series diesel , when he starts it the rocker cover just fills up with oil to coming out every where , we are not too mechaniclly minded so take it easy thanks

Massively overfilled with oil?? The dipstick can be miles out if the base has been loosened so don't trust that.

thanks guys , no it fills up and if you dont switch off it comes out were it can , and no not over filled , cheers

oil should run down past the tappets into cam gallery then sump its either a very blocked up with ****e engine or back pressure is considerable or theres an issue with rockers/shaft and oil is squirting directly up to filler cap

The oil pumped up to the rockers drains back down into the sump by the pushrods.

I can't see how it could become blocked enough to stop the oil draining back. It must be a serious case of crankcase over pressurisation, usually worn/stuck piston rings so compression leaks past the pistons and blows back up through the block, head and out the breather.

It should be obvious if you take the breather off the rocker cover an it does an impression of Ivor the Engine.

mmmm , well no i cant post a video , my computer skills are not good to say the least , if i take the breather off i just over flows , its not my car its a friends was just hoping for a simple answer to this but its not looking good is it , the car was stood for a couple of years before he got it then had it serviced and all seemed good until this happened , me be thinking he needs to find a good landy mechanic , cheers to all who answered ta

Blowing oil out the top is one thing but filling up is another.

Can you feel the pressure if you put your hand over the breather cap hole? It would have to be a helluva lot of pressure to prevent oil draining down and would be obvious.

I'm thinking someone's left a rag in the cam gallery or something daft.
