Hello everyone
From when i bought my first freelander 2.5 i always found oil coming to cooling tank
But when i asked old owner he told me the oil cooler for oil engine leaked from inside so he cancelled nozzel for water and make it from out side
And he told me, becouse of this problem oil and water mixed in all cooling system so i must wait about 5 month to oil it will be gone

I need to know this story true or false

Note:
One mechanic told me maybe there's internal leak coming from cylinder gasket
 
I can't believe a seller would tell a lie about the car. Did he have a very big smile on his face when you transferred the money?

There is a thread on here giving advice when you've bought a bad car - title is something like "crock of ****" - but I don't suppose it applies much to Bahrain.
 
it could be the oil cooler if it has one fitted, and its a combined water and oil radiatior.

it could also be the head gasket.

either aren't particularly hard to fix
 
erm, what would you consider a hard job then?

not sure what you mean,

if the oil cooler is split between the rad and cooler then replace and flush the water passageways and change the oil.

if the head gasket is gone then change it, pressure test and skim head if needed.

Okay both jobs are a fair amount of undoing and doing up stuff but not actually massively complicated, just physical work
 
The coolant also passes through int the gearbox on the v6 I believe, this can also be a place for oil to mix

acutely i think cooling system in freelander same another cars, but it all i need to know my problem to solve it
 
It could also be the IRD cooler - the engine's coolant runs through there.

If there had been a fault in the oil cooler (be it engine, gearbox or IRD) I doubt it would take 5 months to flush out. You would flush it out when you repaired the fault. If there is some residue - it will always be there intil you clear it out - it won't go by itself. Others may correct me on that.

So on that basis I don't think the seller can be telling you the truth.

To be honest, I haven't got a clue what "he cancelled nozzel for water and make it from out side" means.

Is much oil showing in the coolant tank? Have you noticed the engine oil going down?

i bought second hand cooled but still not test it , i will fixed soon
about gasket if i need to change cylinder gasket i need to change also head gasket

i prepare my self i will change my gearbox soon with timing belt, engine belt gearbox cooler, engine cooler
and maybe cylinder gasket
and now i will check IRD
but cylinder gasket i need to know it good or not to buy new one

Yeah I think cylinder gasket/head gasket is the same thing.

Sounds like it's repairable though. Let us know how you get on, seems you have a plan.

actually all people Against me because i bought freelander, i am not care about them
my plan about cooling system i will make flushing to rad and engine ,change cooler for gearbox and engine, finally change gasket
i think every thing it will be good after all

thank you to helping me, i very proud to be one of landyzone family
 
Be warned that changing belts and head gaskets on a 2.5 is not a job for the nervous. There is a lot of strip down required and there isn't much room in the engine bay.
I would check every other possible reason for the oil before I thought of doing head gaskets.
Is the coolant in the expansion tank bubbling when the engine runs?
 
That (to me) makes it less likely that the head gasket is the problem. Not impossible, but certainly worth looking for other causes.
