Hi All,

I've just removed my old 2.5na engine from the LT77 gearbox (300tdi install) and see inside the bell housing is covered in black oil - I haven't yet had time to look where its coming from but assume it's from the engine side?

Is it more common the the engine to leak, rather than the gearbox?

If it's black oil, it's most likely seeping past the rear crank seal. It's pretty common, but easily sorted with a new seal.

Worth checking the output shaft splines/gear at the back of the LT77 if it's as old as the engine. Your 300tdi will be putting a lot more torque/power through it than the 2.5 n/a.
