I have noticed that when buying a replacement oil filter for my Freelander TD4 Auto, in the o ring kit supplied, the small ring for the base of the filter cap seems to be too large a diameter for the groove. It does fit on but very loosely, so much so that I put the old one back on incase it got displaced. This is the same for every kit from various suppliers, Is this o ring correct? Am I being over cautious ?

Hi,

I have tried oil filters from many makes, you wont have all the joints, at least the big one and some others of incorrect size for you car.

I never replaced the small joints in 7 years.

I think some of the aftermarket cheap versions have questionable O rings.
Go for a good brand and you should get the correctly sized rings included.

What make filter did you buy?

Must admit that from where ever I buy them, most are Britparts, but I have had Bosch and Mahle.

There’s your issue
Just purchased a GENUINE LR Oil Filter kit - It cost £17.60 plus postage --- and guess what - it only included the top ring and the bottom ring, and a filter made in Poland, which looks poorer quality than the ones in even the Britpart kit. What am I getting for my money ! Wont do that again.
