I have just noticed (must have just happened) that my lower oil cooler pipe has rubbed on the chassis and is now leaking. The reason for this is the chassis mounted clamp looks to be missing, although as this conversion has been fitted for over 10 years, this must be a new thing and is the reason it is now rubbing. I have a discovery 200tdi in my 110, can anyone give me an idea of what part number I need to order as a replacement?

It is the lower pipe on the oil cooler and the 90 degree on the filter housing (please see photos). I notice Steve parker do a very very expensive conversion pipe kit, but is there a standard off the shelf part which will also work?

Think they are a special..
Certainly mine had to be extended to get it to reach the oil cooler rad as the 200tdi sits further back in the engine bay on a defender than a disco

I am struggling to work out if my current setup matches the part manual because they have cut sections out of the pipes for the diagram so it is difficult to check the shape.

Mine may be standard as there is an s-shaped bend in the rubber sections of the pipes before they attached to filter which may be because they are slightly too long.

Also looking at the Steve Parker kit (link) how do I know what the fittings into the radiator are if they are cone type or O ring type.

Mine are a cone type but run differently to yours.

Think you wont know until you undo the nuts holding pipe to the oil cooler radiator.

If the engine is off shouldn't be too much leakage especially from top pipe.

My 110 300tdi i had to take viscous fan off and cowling and top hose to gain access to mine.

Loads of room in the 90 with the 200tdi conversion

I will take of fthe top one and have a look. can you get adapters to convert the rad to the other type? I do not want to need to buy a whole new rad to to replace oil cooler pipe!

The adaptor on the radiator can be unscrewed, well I know the ones on mine can be. I wonder if it would be cheaper and easier to remove the fitting and go to a hydraulics place to see if they can make up a replacement.

@dag019 , if interested...I have an original/new/still in packaging LR ESR-1912. The length and hose/pipe shape is correct, fitting to oil cooler is correct...you'd need to adapt the male thread to the oil cooler. Feel free to pm if this would help...

I’ve got a leaky pipe too, in fact I think both are starting to leak. Also a 200tdi conversion. I’m going to take mine to a hydraulic place and get a single piece of hose made up, do away with the extra joins and potential leaks.

On my to do list as well, mine are agriculturally engineered so need changing or repair> tried to get some made up but the hydraulics firm we use for pipe couldn't do the right sizewd ends. used to tractors and plant i guess but someone must do them..

That was my experience last time I tried (was for a power steering hose) the answer I got was we can reuse the old ends and make a new rubber hose but they did not have the correct sizes to make all new so i had ruled that out as an option. I will check the fitting into the rad and contact steve parker. I need the vehicle Wednesday so time is not on my side.

Will annoyingly I have the earlier cone type pipe currently, but as mentioned it does look like it is attached to a screw on adapter. can you get similar screw on adapters for the later o-ring style attachments?

My radiator came with both types. I’m on nights this week, but will have a look in the shed as I’m almost certain I kept the type I didn’t need. If I did, and they are what you need, I will send them to you. I don’t know if they can be bought separately though. Maybe if you remove one, you will be able to identify it, and possibly buy one?

If you could that would be great. i think what I need is part number ESR1262, but I also think that is no longer available and new rad, s now come with it as standard rather than a separate interchangable adapter.

Dunno i think i could unbolt the adapter out of my new rad, just left the workshop if not i would look for you

Tbh I would just clean all that old oil/gunk off and see what reappears and how long it takes.
It looks like a very slow non dripping leak, which in my book = no leak!

Well I have finally got around to removing and cleaning up the one that has split. NTC2928 is the part number made 14/12/88 so it has not done badly!

In taking it off the oil filter end is also cone fitted so to use on of the steve parker conversions I would need the rad adapter for the o-ring and the oil filter adapter for an o-ring connector. When I spoke to them they were a long way from helpful and the chap on the phone clearly had very little mechanical knowledge and was sure that the filter fittings were the same throughout the whole range which is clearly not the case.

The grub you can see in the photos is not the leak, the leak is an actual hole in the metal part of the pipe where it has shifted and started rubbing against the chassis. A leak is also an understatement it is pumping out!

Holey.
